This post is all about journaling and why you should start a journal today!
I have been writing in a journal for 16 years now and I will never stop!
Journaling is SO great for so many reasons.
If you like to journal OR have considered starting a journal, welcome!
This post will tell you WHY you should keep a journal, starting today!
Journaling
1. Journal for motivation
One of the best things journaling can do is motivate you!
Write down your goals and dreams, your steps to get there, and why it’s so important to you.
Whenever you start to feel down or discouraged, this journal entry can re-motivate you to keep working for your goals!
2. Write your gratitude
Grateful people are happier people.
Write down the things you are grateful for! Reflect on your blessings and I promise you’ll start to see more of them.
If you feel gratitude for someone, this can even turn into a thank you card! Check out my favorite thank you cards on Amazon here.
4. Journal for self-reflection
Journaling can help you figure out what you’re feeling and why.
Sometimes you might feel angry, happy, discouraged, sad, giddy, guilty, or anxious without knowing why.
When you journal, you explore your thoughts. As you write those down, it can help you discover what’s going on in that big brain of yours.

3. Practice communication
The more you journal, the more you will practice putting your thoughts into words.
This can help you become a better communicator. You’ll practice assigning words to your feelings, which will help when you need to discuss those feelings out loud.

5. Journal to unwind
Have you ever heard of a brain dump?
This is when you write down everything you are thinking so that your brain doesn’t need to keep track of it all anymore!
This can be super helpful in the morning when you are thinking of all you have to do or in the nighttime when you’re reflecting on the day and planning tomorrow.
Try doing a brain dump in the morning or evening and see how it affects your day or your sleep!

6. Journal to organize
Journaling can help you organize your thoughts and plans.
As you write down your ideas, you’ll be better prepared to tackle the next project!
If you’ve got a lot to do, a trip to plan, or a goal to accomplish, try writing about it to get organized.
Looking for a planner instead? I use this cute cactus planner from Amazon religiously. Talk about a scheduling game-changer!
7. Document for keepsakes
It can be fun to write in a journal so that you (or others) can read it again years from now.
How neat would it be to show your journals to your children? They might be blown away at how life was ‘back then’. They might relate to you a little better when they hear your younger voice in words.
8. Write for fun
Finally, with time, you might learn to love journaling!
Journaling can be a therapeutic experience. It has many benefits for you to enjoy.
Open a book, grab a pen, and get writing!
