Wahoo, it’s honeymoon time!
Whether you’re headed to a relaxing tropical cruise, an escape in a local hotel, or an adventurous road trip, you’ll need a few things for your honeymoon.
It can be fun to pack this list with your fiance so that you can each pick out some preferences and feel excited about the upcoming trip.
However, especially if you’ve never had sex before, it might be fun and helpful to ask a friend or family member to put together some items on this list. They might have a better grasp on what you need and where to get the best kinds.
Either way, make sure you’ve packed these essentials so that you can have the time of your life on the honeymoon trip!
1) Protection
First things first – if you’re not looking to get pregnant any time soon, make sure you’ve packed whatever you need for protection!
** just as a side note, nobody has to have sex on their first night of marriage or even their entire honeymoon. Make sure you discuss with your fiance what you both expect for the honeymoon and wedding night. The rest of the items on this list are for all sorts of bonding, exploring, and enjoying each other, but this item is one that specifically applies to you having sex.
If you plan to be on birth control, you won’t need to pack anything extra in this category. Just make sure you set up doctors appointments a few weeks before your honeymoon, ensuring that your body has recovered or adjusted to any birth control method you decide to use.
** ps: considering birth control? I had a great experience using Nexplanon, you can read about it here!
If you’re not on birth control, you might look into packing condoms. They can be found almost anywhere, including convenience stores, supermarkets, pharmacies, and online.
2) Lubricant
For those who might not know, lubricant is a liquid or gel that couples can apply to various body parts in order to reduce any friction that can occur when their body is handled or rubbed.
Lubricant is an item that is especially helpful for first-time lovers whose bodies are probably not used to being touched a lot. Lubricant application can help couples avoid feeling ‘raw’ or ‘stuck’ on various body parts.
In short, things will move more smoothly with generous amounts of applied lubricant.
** in case you didn’t know, both men and women produce natural lubricant from the penis and vagina when they feel aroused. If a couple produced enough, they might not need to use any extra sources of lubricant. However, since not enough lubricant can rub body parts raw, it’s typically safer and more comfortable to err on the side of too much 🙂
3) Towels
Sex is messy! Between the lubricant, ejaculation, sweat, blood (if the female is on a period), and – let’s face it – some sloppy kissing, you might be surprised at how much there is to clean up.
In case you’re spending time on a bed that’s not yours, it might be wise to lay down a few towels in preparation for any lovemaking, intense cuddling, or passionate kissing.
Whether or not your honeymoon in filled with sex, chances are you and your lover will want to spend time loving on each other, so pack a towel or two!
4) Flushable wipes
As described previously, sex and general couple love can get messy.
One of the easiest ways to clean up sticky messes is to use flushable wipes.
Post mess-making, it’s easy to clean up any sticky/stinky substances with wipes that you can flush. A pack of these wipes on Amazon is linked here.
5) Snacks & drinks
Honeymoons are SO fun, though they can also be exhausting. Don’t forget to eat and drink plenty of sustenance, even if you’re distracted by all the fun things to do.
Sometimes the worst part of a honeymoon is getting up and getting out. Lots of times all the couple wants to do instead is chill out and enjoy each other, especially after a few stressful months of wedding-planning.
In order to prepare for this, pack your favorite snacks and drinks! Then, if you’re having a particularly chill afternoon in a hotel, you won’t have to pause your activities to grab some food.
Instead, you can grab those chips and snuggle up.
6) Deodorant
Speaking of snuggling – don’t forget deodorant!
Chances are your honeymoon will include a lot of one-on-one close time with your partner. Do both of you a favor by packing whatever you need to keep B.O. to a minimum.
For a longer honeymoon, make sure you also have shampoo and soap in order to stay fresh throughout the trip.
7) Mints/toothbrush
Of course, your mouth needs to stay fresh, too!
Don’t forget to pack your toothbrush and toothpaste.
Additionally, pack some mints! Keep them by your bed during the honeymoon so if you wake up with desire, you don’t have to pause to brush your teeth. Just pop a mint and party on.
8) Chapstick
You and your lover might kiss more than ever before on your honeymoon, especially since you’re finally alone!
Pack a few of your favorite lip balms to avoid drying out those luscious lips.
Also, if you have some specific lotion for your face, pack extras of that just in case you experience extra dryness around your mouth.
10) Lotion
Lotion in general is smart to have on your honeymoon. In case of rawness or dryness, some unscented lotion might be just what you need to restore various body parts.
Plus, lotion feels great when applied by someone else. You might spend some of your honeymoon time exploring your partner’s body with lotion and massages. Talk about post-wedding-stress relaxation and relief!
11) Razor
As you and your partner enjoy each other’s bodies, you might realize that some body parts feel more comfortable when they’re dolphin-smooth.
For example, a wife might get really ticklish when her husband grows his mustache – have a razor on hand to trim it!
Or, a husband might feel scratched by his wife’s prickly legs – have a razor on hand to trim it!
** keep in mind that everybody has agency and trimming hair could be a sensitive topic. No one should expect the other person to shave for them, but if you both agree it’s a good idea, shaving might allow you both to experience more comfortable cuddling.
12) Pain reliever
Finally, pack some sort of pain relief just in case.
For new lovers, you might experience some discomfort throughout your body as it gets explored and loved more than ever before.
Additionally, you might be so excited to enjoy your partner that you experience some sleepless nights. Keep the party going by having some aspirin or IBProufen available to alleviate any post-late-night headaches.
13) Bonus options!
Finally, here are a few bonus items that are totally not needed for an awesome honeymoon, BUT, if both partners agree that it would add some enjoyment, you might want to pack these as well!
- Vibrator ring
There are many ‘sex toy’ options out there, feel free to explore as desired. One extra instrument used for sex is a vibrator ring that is slid onto the penis in order to vibrate and stimulate the clitoris during sex.
- Lingerie
It may be fun for the new wife to pack some lingerie – as long as she is comfortable with it! Lingerie can be useful for signaling to the husband that a wife is feeling ‘in the mood’. Lingerie can also help a woman feel sexy and kick-start her arousal process.
- Books
You might find it helpful to pack some books that specifically talk about sexuality, especially if this is your first time tapping into your own sexuality. Books on sex might help you understand what you’re feeling, decide how to proceed, or explore something new. For some suggestions on which books you might want to try, see my post 3 Books You MUST Read Before Your Wedding Night.
- Bath bomb!
You might discover that a fun place to ‘get steamy’ is the shower (haha)! If your destination has a bath, you might find it fun to pack a bath bomb, bubbles, or delicious-smelling soap. This can add a flair of excitement or romance to your sudsy experience.
Thanks for reading! Good luck packing for and then enjoying your honeymoon. Cheers!
