This post is all about setting up a home office for maximum self-improvement!
Are you ever unable to work because of a messy desk or room?
Well that’s exactly how I feel. I can’t focus until I have a clear desktop, and I struggle to create if the room is a mess.
That’s why I have intentionally set up my home office for maximum self-improvement!
There are 3 words I focused on when setting up my office: minimalist, functional, and cozy.
Not only is it clean, but now my office is also very helpful and super comfy – exactly the kind of place that inspires and enables me to create my best work!
Without further ado, welcome to my “cozy minimalist” home office tour!
1 – minimalist
The first goal in creating the prime self-improvement space was to make it minimalist.
I don’t want to have to pick up a mess before I can start a project, thus using up all my energy before I create! Instead, I need a space that is ready to go.
So, it’s pretty vital that this entire office is *easy to clean*.
To make that possible, I started clearing off a lot of surfaces.
Now, in each area of the room, there’s plenty of space for me to set down my notes/phone/laptop in order to bust out some crafts/work/projects.
It’s much easier to keep these surfaces clear when I’ve got plenty of drawer and shelf space to put stuff away in. So each shelf and basket is only filled up 80% – MAX. This way, I never have to shove things in when putting them away. I can just quickly set it there all nice and easy. This makes a HUGE difference in overall tidy-up time.
Next, I have little decorations in the whole room. I like the mostly-blank walls, because they give me room to think. There’s nothing cluttered or distracting about the decor (or lack thereof, ha).
I also opted to not have a trash can in my office at all!! I might change my mind on this one, but for now I really like that I won’t ever have an overflowing trash can in my creative space. Let the kitchen floor collect the trash (ha!)
Finally, I also DON’T keep a lot of typical office supplies in this office. You won’t see any rubber bands, paper clips, tape, etc. That’s because I don’t use them!
Instead, I intentionally picked out which supplies I do need and want. If I ever do need more, I can quickly order or buy it. But for now, I don’t have to make room or manage it, and that gives me a lot more space + time to imagine!
2 – functional
Now that the room is minimized, I filled it with functional tools to support me on my self-improvement journey.
On the bookshelf, I have some incredible self-improvement books. Some of them I have read and plan to re-read, others are on my to-read list!
Next, I have a whiteboard for whenever I want to brainstorm big ideas. I’ve stalked my nearby shelf with plenty of whiteboard markers!
I also have a drawer housing my weekly reset bundle, laminated of course. I pull these out regularly to fill out and use my weekly meal plan, to do list, self care journal, etc.
My laminator is nearby, too, for all my other laminating projects!
I’ve also got notepads, pens, and chargers. Basically, all the tools I love to use when working on self-improvement!
Finally, all around the room I have “task lighting”, or lamps and candles lighting up specific task areas. Turning these on mark the perfect start to a cozy evening of self-improvement.
3 – cozy
Time to add the final touches – making this room feel comfortable for ME!
I’ve got some things I love, like a mirror, candles, and plants.
I have things to treat each of my senses – my favorite candy to taste, some fall lotion to smell, a cozy blanket to touch.
I also have some comfortable places to work – an oversized chair, a well-lit desk, and the thick carpeted floor.
Finally, I included the supplies needed to work on my favorite hobbies – ribbons to cozify my home, a sketch pad for doodling, and my handy dandy label maker (hehe).
Intentionally combining these 3 elements – minimal, functional, and cozy – I’ve created a dream home office space that is both inspiring and helpful! The more time I spend here, the more productive I am, and that sets me up for maximum self-improvement!
Thanks for reading, cheers!
