Your bedroom should be a sanctuary—a place where you can retreat, unwind, and recharge after a long day of scrubbing peanut butter off of every. Single. Surface!
Creating a peaceful and relaxing bedroom space is essential for promoting better sleep, reducing stress, and enhancing your overall well-being. You and I both know how badly we need that!
This blog post, will share some practical tips and tricks to help you transform your primary bedroom into a peaceful retreat… sounds delicious, right?
Choose a Calming Color Palette:
Start by selecting a calming color palette for your bedroom. Opt for soft, soothing colors like muted blues, gentle greens, or warm neutrals. These hues promote a sense of relaxation, setting the tone for a peaceful environment where you can easily unwind after a long day or start anew.
So far our bedroom is mostly white, which I absolutely love. This space is my calm in the storm – always simple no matter how many dishes are in the sink!
Declutter and Simplify:
A cluttered bedroom can disrupt the sense of calm you desperately need. Take the time to declutter and simplify your space. Remove unnecessary items, organize your belongings, and find proper storage solutions. Keep surfaces clean and clear to promote a sense of calm and order.
Create Soft Lighting:
Harsh, bright lighting can be disruptive to your bedroom’s peaceful atmosphere. Incorporate soft and warm lighting options, such as bedside lamps or dimmable lights. Consider adding curtains or blinds that allow you to control the natural light entering the room.
Minimize Electronic Distractions:
Electronics like televisions, computers, or smartphones can interfere with your sleep and relaxation. Create a technology-free zone in your bedroom to encourage a peaceful environment. Remove or limit the use of electronic devices before bedtime to promote better sleep.
If you’re like me and you’re trying to kick the habit of scrolling-until-bedtime, try one of these soothing hobbies instead:

- embroider a flower
- work on a coloring book
- write in a journal

- give yourself a foot massage
- practice heatless curls
- do an at home mani/pedi
- meditate or do yoga
Establish a Relaxation Corner:
Designate a specific area in your bedroom as a relaxation corner. This could be a cozy reading nook with a comfortable chair and a small bookshelf, or a meditation corner with cushions and soft lighting. Having a dedicated space for relaxation helps you unwind and recharge.
Embrace Sensory Elements:
Engage your senses to create a peaceful atmosphere. Consider incorporating relaxing scents using essential oils, scented candles, or linen sprays. Play soft, calming music or nature sounds to soothe your mind. These sensory elements can enhance relaxation and promote better sleep.
This lavender pillow mist smells absolutely amazing, and spraying it across my pillow has become my favorite part of my “wind down” routine! You can find it here.
Keep it Clean and Fresh:
Maintain a clean and fresh environment in your bedroom. If you don’t yet have a weekly cleaning date with your bedroom, now is the time to make one! Regularly clean the space, wash bedding, and open windows to let in fresh air. A clean and tidy room promotes a sense of peace and calm, even with kiddos around.
Keep LESS pillows:
How many pillows do you need on your bed? No seriously, count how many you use each night and get rid of the rest! You’ll save yourself so much time when you stop throwing pillows onto the floor each night and picking them up in the morning. You might even get crazy and start making your bed every day!
Incorporate Natural Elements:
Bringing natural elements into your bedroom can enhance its calm. Place potted plants or fresh flowers to add a touch of nature. Natural materials, such as wood or stone, in your furniture or decor can also create a calming ambiance!
By implementing these tips and tricks, you can transform your bedroom into a peaceful and relaxing sanctuary. Remember, creating a serene environment in your room is essential for your overall well-being. Take the time to create a space that promotes relaxation, restful sleep, and rejuvenation—a relaxing bedroom oasis where you can escape the stresses of the day and find the energy to begin again.
