Being a busy mom can be overwhelming, and staying organized can feel like an impossible task. However, with a few simple organization hacks, you can make your life easier and keep your home clutter-free. Here are ten quick and easy organization hacks for busy moms that you can implement TODAY!
Schedule regular decluttering sessions:
The most important thing you can do to organize your home is to start getting rid of your excess stuff! Your home will become easier to manage as you let go of excess.
Make a habit (weekly? monthly? you decide what your home needs) of going through your home and decluttering regularly. This will help you stay organized and keep your home clutter-free. You can take your donations to local secondhand stores like Goodwill, Savers, or Deseret Industries.
Use drawer dividers:
Drawer dividers are an easy way to keep items separated and organized. Use them in your dresser drawers to keep clothes, socks, and underwear in order. These beautiful bamboo dividers are linked here.
Sticking to a budget? Instead of purchasing some brand-new dividers, try separating the items in your drawers with cardboard boxes that you’re just going to throw away. For years, I separated my underwear by using an old corn dog box. Nothing fancy, but it does the trick!
Make use of hooks:
Hooks are a great way to keep items off the floor and out of the way. Hang hooks near the door for coats, scarves, and bags. Hang hooks in the closet for diaper bags, belts, and hats. You can even use hooks in the bathroom for towels, robes, and loofahs.
Command hooks are my go-to hook because they’re apartment friendly, easy to apply, easy to move, and come in a variety of options! These hooks are my favorite so far, I’ve used them for hanging plants from the ceiling to hiding coiled cords behind the TV!
Create a mail station:
Designate a spot for incoming mail, and have a system for sorting and organizing it. This way, you’ll never lose a bill or important document again.
Invest in a label maker:
A label maker is a great tool for keeping your home organized. Label everything from pantry items to children’s toys for easy identification.
I’ve used this label maker for years and absolutely love it!
Use under-bed storage:
Utilize the space under your bed for storage. Invest in under-bed storage boxes to keep seasonal items or extra linens organized.
Create a cleaning caddy:
Keep your cleaning supplies organized in a caddy that you can easily grab and take from room to room.
Use a filing system:
Keep important documents organized with a simple filing system. Use file folders or binders to keep everything in its place.
If you aren’t in the mood to purchase a big filing cabinet or fancy filing system, keep it simple by grabbing a few school folders and designating a drawer as your filing system. You can also find super inexpensive expanding file folders, like this one from Amazon.
I love this method because it forces me to clean out the files each year instead of stockpiling years worth of unnecessary information!
Use vertical space:
Install shelves or hanging organizers to make use of vertical space in your home. This is a great way to keep items off the floor and out of the way.
Make use of baskets:
Baskets are a simple and attractive way to keep items organized. Use them for everything from toys to magazines.
My dream is to contain EVERYTHING in my home in lovely baskets someday. To save on costs, I love to shop for inexpensive baskets at thrift stores or off-price department store retailers (my favorite lately is Burlington!).
