This post is all about indoor activities with baby that you’ll both love!
While it is SO fun to take baby outside and let him or her explore the world, in the end it’s likely that both you and your baby will spend a lot of time indoors. The good news is that there are many indoor activities you can enjoy with your baby!
Here is a tried-and-true list of my favorite indoor activities with baby. Let me know in the comments below if there are any other activities you would add!
Indoor Activities With Baby
Jungle gym
One activity I pull out for my baby nearly every day is a jungle gym!
My baby LOVES using her jungle gym. Jungle gyms are perfect for babies because the baby can roll around on the comfy mat, grab the hanging toys or striped frame, and see herself in the hanging mirror.
If you ever notice your baby getting tired of the jungle gym, there are easy ways to spruce it up! For example:
- hang new toys from the jungle gym frame
- sit baby in a seat below the frame so she can grab from a new angle
- prop up books next to the gym for your baby to look at
- drape a patterned blanket or swaddle over the frame for baby to admire
I love having a collapsible jungle gym because it’s super easy to put away. All I do is grab the top of the frame and hang it on a hook, which I can even do one-handed if I’m holding baby! I also love that it’s neutral colored. Linked here.
Balloons
If you ever have a party, save a balloon or two for your baby!
Hand the balloon string to your baby so he or she can pull and bounce it all over the place!
If your baby keeps letting the balloon go, you can try tying the balloon to their clothes, to a binky clip, or loosely around his or her ankles.
Bells
Similar to balloons, you can attach some bells to your baby for some indoor afternoon fun!
This activity is especially perfect if you have Christmas decorations out and about. A few silver bells can double as decor and a baby toy!
Spa day
If you need a longer indoor activity, try a baby spa day!
I wrote out a full blog post on the activities I love to do during a baby spa day, from a bath to a massage. You can read that post here: Terrific Ideas for the Coziest Baby Spa Day
Tummy time
Another fun indoor baby activity is tummy time. Some babies take a long time to warm up to tummy time, or they might only enjoy tummy time for a few minutes.
If you are trying to stretch out your little one’s tummy time duration, you can try spicing it up by:
- propping baby up on a pillow
- setting up high contrast pictures near baby
- have tummy time on your own tummy instead of the floor and chat with baby
- turn on some music nearby
Read a book
One of my favorite indoor baby activities is reading!
There are SO many adorable baby books out there you can use for this activity.
Some of our favorites are super simple crinkle books that baby can squish and chew on.
Eventually we transitioned to sturdy cardboard books that baby can grab at.
Try reading your books with drastic voice changes to keep baby entertained!
Chores in carrier
One of MY favorite indoor activities with baby is chores in a wrap!
I absolutely love using my Solly baby wrap to do chores. It’s soft, stretchy, and oh-so-comfortable for both the baby and me!
This carrier is amazing because you both get what you want – baby gets to stay close to mama, and mama gets to be productive!
I like to wrap up my baby in the Sollybaby wrap when I vacuum, do dishes, or go grocery shopping. Check out our classic Saturday Sollybaby outfit!
Right now I use the black Sollybaby wrap but if I ever get another one it will be this color!
Bouncer seat
Not a fan of carrying the baby while you vacuum? Try a bouncer seat!
Bouncer seats are so fun for babies because they can bounce and it’s easy to attach hanging toys for your baby to play with!
Since the bouncer seat doesn’t rest on the ground, it’s easy to set it on any surface – the hardwood kitchen floor, the bathroom tile, or even the dining table as long as baby is supervised.
Here’s my favorite affordable gender neutral bouncer:
I hope you enjoy all of these indoor activities with your own baby!
