I was so lucky during my first pregnancy to have not one, but THREE baby showers! There were simply so many people who wanted to celebrate our baby girl that we decided the more parties the better!
Along the way, I noticed a few things we did that made each shower incredible. I want to make sure you include these things at your own baby shower to have the best experience possible!
This post will walk you through the 9 things you can do to have an incredible baby shower. Enjoy!
9 Easy Steps to an Incredible Baby Shower!
1) Pick the perfect date
The first step to having the perfect baby shower is picking the perfect date to party!
There are many things to consider when picking a party date, including the pregnant mama’s health and everybody’s availability! In general, it’s best to pick a date when lots of people can come. Try to avoid picking a holiday in case everybody will be out of town.
Another huge factor to date-picking is the pregnant mama! You don’t want to pick a date that’s too late into pregnancy, because if the baby comes early, the party may have to be cancelled! You also don’t want to pick a date that is too early in case mama hasn’t announced her pregnancy to everyone yet. Additionally, everyone at the party will likely be excited to see (and maybe feel!) mama’s baby bump. Some women don’t have much of a bump until late into their second trimester, so waiting longer may be best!
I had my baby showers during the beginning of my third trimester, which was perfect! I had enough of a bump to get cute pictures with all my guests, but I wasn’t so big that I lacked the energy to move around and I wasn’t nervous about going into labor yet!
2) Make invites!
Oh my goodness there are SO many cute ideas you can use to make baby shower invites!
Looking for a template? Here are 2 of my favorite baby shower invite styles we used that you can download for FREE and use yourself:
When you design the invite, don’t forget to include information about the new parents’ baby registry! It will be so helpful for guests to know what the new parents need and if they are planning on bringing a gift, they can buy something from the registry!
Make a guest list with the new mama and send out those invites! Give everyone enough time to put the party in their calendars, and include your information for RSVP so you know how many people to plan for!
3) Get cute decorations
Maybe my favorite part of each party were the adorable decorations! I’ll include a few pictures of the decor at my baby showers so you can brainstorm what to include at yours!
A few fun ideas you can consider are:
4) Decide on daddy
Next step, decide beforehand if the baby daddy should come! We realized that my husband wouldn’t know many people at the first shower but he would know everybody at the second and third showers, so I only had him come to those two! It worked out perfectly – he had so much fun at the showers he came to and didn’t have to sit through an awkward one without knowing people!
5) Have a chair for mama
No matter how far along mama is in pregnancy, it will definitely feel nice for her to sit down! Alleviate her swollen feet and achy back by providing a nice comfy spot for mama to sit. Make sure it’s close to the guests and maybe by the gift table as well if you plan on having her open presents during the party!
6) Provide advice
Many first time mamas find that the older and wiser mamas in their life have loads of baby advice to share! This can be a little overwhelming, especially if the pregnant mama didn’t ask for advice. A perfect solution for overload of advice is to provide a place for party guests to write down their advice!
Maybe it’s on a note card or in a book – either way, a collection of advice is a perfect thing to include at a baby shower. When mama is in a place where she actually needs or wants baby advice, she can pull out the collection and read great tips from friends and family. Now, everyone can spend more time partying at the baby shower!

7) Assign a picture person
Perhaps my top tip is to put someone other than the mama-to-be in charge of pictures! I had so many guests to greet and presents to open, there wasn’t much time for me personally to capture all the details. It was so nice to have people at each party in charge of my phone and taking pictures. They made sure to get details of the event, pictures of me with guests, and even a few candid shots for me to enjoy 🙂
8) Bring mama a plate of food
Second, make a plate of food for the mama-to-be! Again, my time at each event was consumed with socializing, but the food was supposed to be some of my favorite and I absolutely did not want to miss out! I was so grateful each time when somebody put together a plate of goodies for me to eat.
9 Party favors
For the final touch, include some cute party favors! My favorite party favor was a cute little succulent. Guests could take one home and watch it grow while the celebrated baby continues to grow as well!
